LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Come connect with the world outside through ADK’s winter community hikes or be cozy by the fire and learn something new at ADK’s winter lecture series. All programs are free and open to the public.
Lake Placid Winter Community Hike
This Winter ADK is teaming up with the Uihlein Foundation to offer free naturalist walks once a month at the new Heaven Hill Trails just outside of the village of Lake Placid on Bear Cub Lane. Participants should meet at the Heaven Hill trailhead on Bear Cub Lane and be prepared for a 1-2 mile walk in adverse conditions. Snowshoes or micro-spikes will be provided if needed.
Community hikes are on the last Saturday of every month, start at 2pm, and are on the following dates:
January 28th, February 25th, and March 25th
Winter Lecture Series
ADK offers FREE, 1-hour presentations once a month at Heart Lake. Lectures start at 8pm and are open to all.

Winter in the High Peaks- Winter is harsh in the valley, but even more so on the peaks. Amazing adaptations, fragile plants, a struggle for survival—all take place on our snowy summits. Experience winter through the eyes of an alpine plant with Kayla White, ADK’s Summit Steward Coordinator.

Annie and Jonny Duet: Join us for an evening of beautiful vocals and harmonies that are blended into an eclectic mix of acoustic folk, torchy blues, bluegrass, gospel, early jazz and more!

Lessons from the Trail: A Transformation after One Year on the Pacific Crest Trail, Te Araroa, and the Appalachian Trail: After nearly 7,000 miles of thru-hiking in just over a calendar year, Tyler Socash, ADK’s Wilderness Trip Leader, presents his transformation from outdoor activity to outdoor advocacy.
