|Description||Join us in in Germany, in Bavaria’s Franken wine country, for an 8-day/7-night “radfahren” or cycling adventure along the meandering River Main. Starting out in Bamburg, a lovely old city of half-timbered houses, we’ll cycle along well marked, paved bike paths beside the River Main and through many lovely towns and villages including Volkach, Würzburg, Miltenbern and Aschaffenburg – our end point, Averaging 30 miles per day this adventure is well suited for the leisure cyclist – not the “century” rider. The pace will be moderate, and we’ll have plenty of time to admire the scenery along the way and enjoy the cities and villages we’ll overnight in. On route we’ll see many castles, fortresses, monasteries, and beautiful churches. We’ll also be rewarded at the end of each day with the tastes of Bavaria – Knödel, Weiβwurst, Leberkäse, Käsespätzle, Apfelstrudel, and for those interested – Bier und Wein.
Our trip is self-guided, but supported by a local cycling outfitter, who will provide – most importantly, luggage transfer from hotel-to-hotel. Also provided is a comfortable 7 speed touring bikes with saddle and pedals, paniers, a repair kit, a bike lock, maps, and road side assistance if required. Wearing a cycling helmet is mandatory – please bring yours from home.
Participants on the trip must have a good level of fitness and the mental and physical stamina to cycle for multiple days in varied weather – although the weather in Germany in September is usually very pleasant with highs of 70 degrees Fahrenheit and mostly sunny.
Accommodations will be in three star hotels and/or guesthouses in the cities and towns that we cycle through. As our group is large and the hotels are small, there will be a limited number of single and twin rooms available. This may result in our group staying at two different hotels within the same city/town to accommodate room preferences, if possible. Half-board – breakfast and dinner, will be taken at each hotel. All lunches will be purchased by the participant on-route.
Travel to Germany is quite easy. It recommended that you fly to either Frankfurt (FRA) or Munich (MUC) International airports. Germany’s time zone is Central European (CET) and is 6 hours ahead of EST. There are no immunizations required to enter Germany, however, it is recommend that your Tetanus vaccination is current.
|Accommodations||Due to the small size of the hotels and/or guesthouses we will stay in, single and twin rooms will be subject to availability and assigned on a first come/first serve basis.|
|Trip Insurance||It is very strongly recommended that all participants have trip or travel insurance that will cover trip cancellation by the participant, travel delays, medical expenses and medical evacuation. ADK does not provide this insurance and does not cover medical expenses or evacuation in the event you are injured or become ill during the trip.
