Become part of the movement that is sweeping the nation to secure for all people constitutional recognition and protection of their inalienable rights to pure water, clean air, a stable climate and healthy environments.
New York Legislators passed S 2072/A 2064 on April 30, 2019. This proposed Constitutional Amendment is a bill to amend the New York State Constitution to recognize the environmental rights of the people of New York. This legislation would amend Article 1, the Bill of Rights, of the New York State Constitution to insert a new Section 19, recognizing the inalienable and self-executing right of all New Yorkers to clean air and water, and a healthful environment. The passage of this bill in 2019 was the first step. After a second successful passage in 2021, the Constitutional Amendment will be voted on by all New York citizens.
