Which chapter should I join?

You can join any chapter in the ADK, regardless of where you live. Typically a member chooses a chapter that is geographically closest to his or her home. No matter what chapter you join, you can always participate in any chapter’s activities. It is also not necessary to join a chapter.

Does ADK offer a digital version of the Adirondac?

Yes! The current issue is available in the Members Only section on the ADK website after you log in. You can also sign up for the Digital Adirondac.

Can ADK email my renewal notice instead of mailing it?

Yes, you can sign up for email renewal notices here.

Do you share my name with other groups?

Sometimes we share our mailing list with other environmental groups. This helps ADK acquire new members and keeps recruitment costs down so we can allocate more resources to conservation, advocacy, recreation, education, and stewardship. If you do not want your name exchanged, please call or email us. We never sell our mailing list nor do we sell or exchange email addresses.

Are my membership dues tax deductible?

Yes, all but $10 for your Adirondac subscription are tax deductible.

Will I receive appeals for additional donations? Why aren’t my dues enough to support all of ADK?

Yes, during the year ADK sends out appeals for additional support. Membership dues provide you and your family with benefits you can enjoy. For those members who selected to be part of a chapter, 30% of your dues are given to your chapter to cover chapter costs such as newsletters, outings and social gatherings. Membership dues are only partially deductible. Tickets to dinners or adventure travel are not tax deductible because the IRS deems these as providing you a benefit.

Charitable gifts to ADK support the mission and are what make ADK so much more than a paddling or hiking club. Your gifts support conservation, advocacy, recreation, education and stewardship activities that improve the quality of life for you, fellow club members and for anyone who benefits from the New York State Forest Preserve and other wild lands and waters across the state. Your gifts help protect land and water for now and for future generations. The IRS recognizes such gifts as tax-deductible.
