Elevation: 2760 ft
Ascent: 980 ft
Round-Trip Distance: 9.2 miles
Location: Upper Works trailhead north of Newcomb
Region: Lake Placid/High Peaks

A moderate hike along a historic stream. The trail begins along a gravel road to an open area that was used for logging. Past here, the trail has recently been rerouted to avoid two bridges destroyed during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.

Calamity Brook

Calamity Brook

The new route is a pleasant meadow walk with views of Calamity Brook. At the remains of the second bridge, the trail rejoins the established path. The trail can be muddy and wet at times, but the sights at Flowed Lands are awesome.

Note: For a more complete description of the trail, please see the guide Adirondack Mountain Club High Peaks Trails and the accompanying Trails of the Adirondacks High Peaks Map.
