ADK (Adirondack Mountain Club) is excited to announce its ADK Stewardship Ambassador program, a new volunteer program created to inspire outdoor enthusiasts to protect New York’s wild lands and waters.  ADK is seeking human powered outdoor recreationists who are passionate about sharing their story while on the trail and interested in taking a stewardship role along the way.  Hikers, paddlers, mountain bikers, backpackers and campers with photography, writing or video skills should visit our website to learn more and to apply.

ADK Stewardship Ambassadors will inspire ADK’s community to protect New York’s wild places by sharing stories through writing and visually captivating media. Through this program, six recreationists based in New York will be selected to promote and advocate for the importance of protecting New York’s public lands by sharing their experiences through social media and blogs.

“For over 90 years ADK has been a steward of New York’s wild lands and waters by putting boots on the ground to do trail maintenance, to monitor lakes and forests for invasive pests, by educating recreationists in Leave No Trace skills and ethics, and by advocating for public land protections,” says Wes Lampman, ADK’s chief operating officer.  “ADK’s Stewardship Ambassador program will be a continuation of this legacy using a different medium to connect with our community.  As places like the Eastern High Peaks Wilderness become more popular, it’s more important than ever for hikers and other recreationists to minimize their impact on the trail and maximize their positive impact on the community.”

“Social media is a powerful tool for promoting stewardship efforts in wild places,” says Julia Goren, ADK’s education director.  “ADK’s Stewardship Ambassador program will help us reach people where they are and help inspire people to protect their public lands.”

Volunteers who are interested in participating in this program have until April 15th to apply. Ambassadors will be selected and announced in early May.  Those interested in being an ADK Stewardship Ambassador should find out more here.
