Volunteer Programs

Volunteer programs are vital to the Adirondack Mountain Club because of the important work that ADK accomplishes in the community through its mission:   “… the protection and responsible recreational use of the New York State Forest Preserve, parks, and other wild lands and waters."

Because ADK is a member-directed organization, and to accomplish our mission, we utilize the skills, talent, and commitment of volunteers. Volunteers bring excitement and access to new resources, media, legislators, corporations, money, and the community's perspective.

Here is a stirring account, authored by Tom Wemett, of a brilliantly executed volunteer effort during the spring fly-in at Johns Book Loj on April 26, 2005.
