Family Friendly Hikes
Here are some relatively easy hikes in the Adirondacks.
Please read descriptions to ensure that the hikes are
suitable for you and your family.
High Peaks/Lake Placid Area
- Baker Mountain A small but interesting mountain near Saranac Lake.
- Goodnow Mountain A 1.9 mile hike to a fire tower.
- Poko-O-Moonshine A hike in the northern part of the Adirondacks with great views of Vermont and Lake Champlain. It also has a restored fire tower.
- Mount Jo ADK's own mountain, on the north shore of Heart Lake (photo). Two trails lead to the top of this 2876 ft. peak. For a description of the trail, please see ADK's (guide to) ADIRONDACK TRAILS - High Peaks Region 13th Edition, pp. 140-141.
- Owl's Head A 0.6 mile 460 foot climb of a mountain with many fine views.
Central Adirondacks
- Paul's Ledge A quiet treasure of the central Adirondacks.
- Sawyer Mountain A popular hike north of Indian Lake.
Inlet Old Forge Area
- Bubb & Sis Lakes A pleasant walk in the woods to two Adirondack lakes.
Lake George Area
- Cat Mountain A longer walk, but a great view.
- Deer Leap 1.7 miles from the Tongue Mountain Trailhead on Route 9N to an overlook above Lake George. See ADK's (guide to) ADIRONDACK TRAILS - Eastern Region 2nd Edition, pp. 138, 153.
- Pilot Knob Ridge A great introduction to the hiking pleasures of the eastern shore of Lake George.
- Shelving Rock Falls
- Shelving Rock Mountain One of the easiest climbs in the Adirondacks.
- Thomas Mountain A gentle walk to a great view.
Southern Adirondacks
- Hadley Mountain A restored fire tower allows great views in all directions.
