Trailless Peak Day Hikes - Summer Series
Uncomfortable approaching “trailless” high peaks on your own? These one-day courses will introduce you to the nuances of hiking off trail through guided trips to the summit(s) of various “trailless” high peaks. We’ll discuss safe low-impact travel, route selection, off trail navigation, and the rich natural history of the Adirondacks. As with any course, learning new skills will be our primary focus, and although every effort will be made to do so, there are no guarantees of reaching summits. Weather, safety, and group ability will be determining factors. Due to the physically strenuous nature of these hikes, participants should have prior hiking experience, be in good physical condition and prepared to spend (in some cases) up to 12 hours hiking. The terrain encountered is typical of the High Peaks region, so be prepared for anything from rocks and roots, to mud, blow-down, stream crossings, steep slopes, rock slabs and so on. All trips are based out of the Heart Lake Program Center in Lake Placid.
Cost: $52/$58; includes instruction.
