Paddling Skills Development Canoers

ACA Intro to Canoe               

This one-day course focuses on basic tandem and/or solo canoe skills for sitting paddlers. Presentations include dressing to paddle safely and potential paddling hazards. Practice of simple rescues and a basic set of paddling skills prepare students to maneuver safely and comfortably on still water. 

Location: Heart Lake Progam Center

Cost: $59/$65; includes instruction and use of equipment. ACA members receive a 10 percent discount.

This one-day course focuses on basic solo kayak skills. Presentations include dressing to paddle safely and potential paddling hazards. Practice of simple rescues and a basic set of paddling skills prepare students to maneuver safely and comfortably on still water.

Cost: $59/$65; includes instruction and use of equipment. ACA members receive a 10 percent discount.

American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructor Certification          

This four-day course is designed to help outdoor educators and leaders, outfitters, and enthusiasts develop the skills and teaching technique needed to safely lead others by canoe and/or kayak through flat-water. 

Location: Heart Lake Program Center/Field

Cost: $375 ADK members/$415 nonmembers; includes instruction and certifications.
