American Canoe Association (ACA) Intro to Canoe
This one-day course focuses on basic tandem and/or solo canoe skills for sitting paddlers. Presentations include dressing to paddle safely and potential paddling hazards. Practice of simple rescues and a basic set of paddling skills prepare students to maneuver safely and comfortably on still water.
Cost: $60 ACA member/$70 non-member/$100 including ACA membership; includes instruction. ADK members receive a 10% discount. Canoe rentals are available with advanced notice.

This one-day course focuses on basic solo kayak skills. Presentations include dressing to paddle safely and potential paddling hazards. Practice of simple rescues and a basic set of paddling skills prepare students to maneuver safely and comfortably on still water.

Beginner Backpacking – Pharaoh Lakes Wilderness Area Field
Enjoy learning the tips and tricks of backpacking and low-impact camping with a NYS Licensed Guide. Three days and two nights will be spent in the Pharaoh Lakes Wilderness covering topics such as proper gear, food planning and preparation, safety considerations, map reading, camp set-up, low-impact techniques, water treatment, waste management and stove use.
Cost: $150/$165; includes instruction, meals, and use of group gear.

American Canoe Association Instructor Certification
This four-day course is designed to help outdoor educators and leaders, outfitters and enthusiasts develop the skills and teaching technique needed to safely lead others by canoe through flat-water and moving-water.
Cost: $310/$340; includes instruction and certifications.

Trailless Peak Day Hikes: Esther Mt.
Uncomfortable approaching “trailless” high peaks on your own? This one-day course will introduce you to the nuances of hiking off trail through a guided trip to the summit of Esther Mt. (elev. 4,240 ft.). We’ll discuss safe low-impact travel, route selection, off trail navigation, and the rich natural history of the Adirondacks.
Cost: $52/$58; includes instruction.

Uncomfortable approaching “trailless” high peaks on your own? This one-day course will introduce you to the nuances of hiking off-trail through a guided trip to the summit of Tabletop Mt. (elevation 4,427 ft.). We’ll discuss safe low-impact travel, route selection, off trail navigation, and the rich natural history of the Adirondacks.

This one-day course will introduce you to the nuances of hiking off trail through a guided trip to the summits of both Street (elev. 4,166ft) and Nye (elev. 3,895ft) Mountains. We’ll discuss safe low-impact travel, route selection, off trail navigation, and the rich natural history of the Adirondacks.

June 27-29, 2008

Trailless Peak Backpacking: Cliff & Redfield
This trip is designed for those who have experience hiking and backpacking and who are looking for guided backcountry experience in pursuit of climbing two 4,000’+ summits. The group will hike into a base camp from which they’ll be guided up the “trailless” peaks of Cliff and Redfield Mountains. The course will be a cooperative group camping experience led by a NYS licensed guide with the shared responsibility of camp chores, cooking, and decision-making.
Cost: $150/$165; includes instruction, meals, and use of group gear.


June 28-29, 2008

Leave No Trace Trainer
The Trainer Course is a vital component of the nationwide Leave No Trace program. Participants receive introductory training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics in a condensed two-day format. The Trainer Course assists the student participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for disseminating these low impact skills.
Cost: $75/$83; includes instruction, meals and use of group gear.
