Aug. 1

Women's Hike Peaks - Esther Mountain

This trip is designed for women who are looking for an exciting hike up an Adirondack high peak. During this one-day courses, we’ll discuss safe low-impact travel, route selection, and the natural history of the Adirondacks while climbing to the summit.  This trip is a challenging, full-day hike that requires good physical condition. (Elevation: 4,240 ft., Distance: 9.5+/- miles round-trip)

Location: Heart Lake Program Center

Aug. 2

Paddling Day Trip - Little Tupper Lake 

Located in the William C. Whitney Wilderness, this excursion will provide a fun day of touring and informal instruction.  Little Tupper is almost completely surrounded by state land, and we’ll paddle a good portion of the shoreline over the course of the day.  While working on our paddling skills, we’ll take in the scenery and discuss safe, low-impact travel, as well as the rich natural history of the area.

Cost: $60/$65; includes instruction and equipment use.

Wild Mushrooms of the Adirondacks

4:30 till 8:30 with an hour for dinner

Basic do’s and don’ts are essential for those thinking of eating wild mushrooms. See the basic groups of wild fungi while viewing power point photos of Adirondack Mushrooms. Learn tips on how to identify the hundreds of fungi available in this area. Afterwards take a walk in the woods to see what fungi we find. Field note forms and wax collecting bags will be supplied.

Location: Heart Lake Program Center

Cost: $40/$45, includes instruction and delicious hearty home cooked dinner.

Trailless Peak Day Hike - Mt. Marshall

Uncomfortable approaching “trailless” high peaks on your own?  This one-day course will introduce you to the nuances of hiking off trail through a guided trip to the summit of Mt. Marshall. (Elevation: 4,360 ft., Distance: 17+/- miles round-trip) We’ll discuss safe low-impact travel, route selection, off trail navigation, and the rich natural history of the Adirondacks.  Due to the physically strenuous nature of these hikes, participants should have prior hiking experience, be in good physical condition, and be prepared to spend (in some cases) up to 12 hours hiking.

Aug. 4-7

Dog Days I Dog Days

This four-day Heart Lake exploration and discovery program is designed for kids ages 8-12.  Each day will feature fun educational activities utilizing the woods and waters around the Adirondak Loj. These will include hiking, canoeing, pond & brook explorations, and lots of excitement and games.  A “grand finale” for summer before the kids return to school!  Children should bring their own lunch and snacks each day.

Location: Heart Lake Program Center  

Cost: $145/$160, includes four days of instruction, materials for activities, and use of equipment.

Trailless Backpacking – The Sewards

This trip is designed for experienced hikers and backpackers who are looking for guided backcountry experience in pursuit of climbing “trailless” High Peaks. The trip is strenuous. (Elevations: Seymour 4,120’; Donaldson 4,140’; Emmons 4,040 ’; Seward 4,361’ Distance: 20 +/- miles round-trip) Participants must have hiking experience, be in good physical condition and be able to maintain a quick hiking pace for up to 12 hours a day. Family Canoe Camping - Lake Lila

Here’s an opportunity to share an unforgettable experience with your child or grandchild. Spend two nights and three days canoe camping on and enjoying the beautiful sandy beaches on serene Lake Lila.  There will be plenty of time for learning new canoe strokes, playing on the beaches, day hikes, fun and games, and exploring the natural history of the area. 

Cost: $160/$175 adults, $110/$121 kids, includes instruction, meals, and group gear.

Garden Basket Making                                                                  

Create your own Garden Basket with the owners of Clear Creek Weavers, Bud Ziolkowski and Sandy Muller.  Weave your own basket from start to finish during this full-day course, as skilled craftspeople will take you through the step-by-step instruction.  You’ll leave at the end of the day with a beautiful basket, a sense of accomplishment and a smile on your face!

Aug. 28-30

Canoe Camping 101 - St. Regis Canoe Wilderness

Experience backcountry travel by boat as you explore the pristine ponds, streams, lakes and rivers of the Adirondack Park. These three-day, two-night canoe camping courses are designed for the outdoor enthusiast who has some experience both canoeing and camping and is seeking to bring these together. Participants will spend days refining their paddling skills while appreciating the exceptional natural history along the waters’ edge. In the evenings, we’ll practice cooperative low-impact camping and cooking skills.

Cost: $160/$175, includes instruction, meals, and use of group gear.

Trailless Backpacking – The Santononis

This trip is designed for experienced hikers and backpackers who are looking for guided backcountry experience in pursuit of climbing “trailless” High Peaks. The trip (Elevations: Santanoni 4,607’; Couchsacraga 3,820’; Panther 3,862’
