The map above shows one potential opportunity for expanding places in the Adirondacks for tranquil paddling. Under a proposal endorsed by the Adirondack Mountain Club, these 13 ponds south of the St. Regis Canoe Area would be off limits to gas-powered motorboats. Boats with electric motors would be allowed, but there would be a 5 mph speed limit. The total area of the ponds is 3 square miles, which is less than 1 percent of the total lake and pond surface area of the Adirondack Park.
