Adirondack Mountain Club Calendar Wins Award
Lake George, N.Y. — The 2008 Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) Calendar: With Wilderness at Heart has received the Bronze Award in the Best Non-Profit Retail category from the Calendar Marketing Association.
A panel of judges rated the entries on the quality of artwork, photography and graphics; the readability and information quality of the calendar grid; the originality of the calendar; the complete execution of the calendar subject or theme; and the fulfillment of the category entered.
The 2008 edition of ADK’s award-winning calendar
features accomplished nature photographers
Nancie Battaglia, Robert Marrone, Hardie Truesdale, Mark Bowie and Joanne Kennedy. Among the monthly photographs are views of Lower Saranac Lake, the Bog River, Mount Haystack, the Gothics, Platte Clove and Blackhead Mountain in the Catskills
and Follensby Clear Pond.
The main photographs are accompanied by small images and excerpts from No Place I’d Rather Be: Wit and Wisdom from Adirondack Lean-to Journals, authored by Stuart F. Mesinger and published by ADK. These excerpts offer glimpses of life on the trail that are by turns inspirational, hilarious, pathetic and thoughtful.
The 2009 version of ADK’s calendar will be available in May 2008.
ADK Publications staff Ann Hough of Keene, N.Y.; Andrea Masters, of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; and Nicole Farrell, of Lake George, N.Y., produced the calendar.
Purchase of this and other publications, including the recently released No Place I'd Rather Be: Wit and Wisdom from Adirondack Lean-to Journals, helps support ADK’s programs in conservation, education and recreation. Also available are hiking, paddling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing guides; natural history guides; and cultural and literary histories of the Adirondack and Catskill Parks.
