Lost Lookout Trail on the Adirondack Mountain Reserve Property.

Ausable lakeOn Thursday May 19, 2005 I decided to explore the Lost Lookout trail on the property of the Ausable club in St. Huberts. Signing in at the gate register I headed out along the Lake road trail spotting a deer or two along the way. Finally coming to the Ausable dam at approximately 3 miles and some change, I sat and had a snack looking at the super views from a rock at the bridge below the dam. I headed up to the Lost lookout trail after about 30 minutes or so and started a mostly moderate climb to a view of Rainbow falls through some trees. Moving on at a good clip, the trail with its gentle ups and downs brought me to a great view of the lower Ausable lake and its surroundings (above).

FisherHeading on again through some beautiful forest I came around a blind corner and spotted an animal. Good size and slow steady moving was this creature and I was careful as I approached it. Standing at the base of a tree, I finally recognized what I was face to face with. It was a fisher. It started to climb the tree moving like a sloth and stopped halfway up and looked directly at me as if to say, "well go ahead and take a picture ). Moving slowly past the fisher up in the tree, I headed out once again and arrived just above Beaver meadow falls. Taking more pics here I decided that this would be a great place for lunch. Heading down the trail from Beaver meadow falls, I made my way back to the Lake road for an easy walk out. So many trails lead to many of the big mountains in this area that one forgets that sometimes the less traveled trails offer more surprises and greater rewards.
