Volunteer Opportunities on the Trails

A joint effort of ADK, Adirondack Nature Conservancy, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
Since 1990, the Adirondack Nature Conservancy, ADK and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation have been working together to make this program happen. Funding has been made possible in part through the generosity of the 46er Conservation Trust. During the peak hiking season summit stewards provide daily coverage on Mount Marcy and Algonquin and weekend coverage on Colden. Summit Stewards will educate visitors about the fragile and endangered alpine communities, keep track of visitor use statistics, work on trail definition and complete special projects for the Adirondack Nature Conservancy.
Since 1990, the Stewards have made over 100,000 visitor contacts. The number of contacts has gone up by over 50 percent since the program's inception. As the numbers increase, the importance of good stewardship and responsible use will become even greater. Volunteers can expand coverage and help carry out special projects. Interested? Please contact 518-523-3441.
