Summer Calendar 2008
May - August Outings Algonquin Chapter 2008
Watch the "Sport Shorts" in the Press Republican for updates.
Participants must:
- Join at least one moderate outing, before participating in a strenuous
outing. Please respect the group and be fair in estimating your capabilities. - Call the trip leader at least 24 hours in advance, unless otherwise noted.
- Wear appropriate clothing and footwear; bring adequate food and liquid. Expect winter conditions in the mountains through Memorial Day.
- Sign the liability form, as required by ADK. Minor children must be accompanied by an adult, other than the trip leader.
- Contribute to the cost of gasoline, if car pooling.
- Supply Personal Flotation Device for all water sports.
All outings are open to the public, unless otherwise noted. Easy hikes and outings of interest to families are marked (*). Outings of interest to naturalists, with an emphasis on botany and birding, are marked (**)
Aspiring 46'ers can "bag" 9 high peaks with us this summer. Please share the schedule with friends and invite them along when you join an outing.
Fri., May 9 *Visit the Northcountry Planetarium.
"Preview of Late Spring and Early Summer" will give a live tour of the skies of the coming summer season. Constellation and deep sky telescopic objects are shown as they will appear in the actual sky as well as telescopic and space craft views. This is
a great way to get ready for some summer stargazing. Call Marilyn Smith, 561-3167 for reservations to the 8:00 pm show. Tickets are $2.00.

A repeat tour of waterfalls on the East Branch of the Ausable River, and its tributaries. Car pooling required, bring a picnic lunch. All abilities. Leader: Anne Bailey, 563 - 5794. Please call by 5/8.

Fri., May 30 *Climb Wood Hill, Elizabethtown, for views of Adirondack artist Alexander Lawrie.

Sat., June 7 Bike Trip to Burlington via the Port Kent ferry.

Tues., July 15 Mississquoi National Wildlife Refuge paddle, part of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail.

Fri., July 18 *Sawyer Mt. and Castle Rock, Blue Mt. Lake.

Sat., July 19 *Visit the Biosphere on Ile Ste. Helene and Floralies on Ile Notre Dame in Montreal.

Sat., July 26 Celebrate the 60th anniversary of Algonquin Chapter with a strenuous climb of Algonquin Mt.

Sat., Sept. 13 Bridgebrook Pond, a wilderness hike near Tupper Lake. Moderate, 6 mi. round trip. Bring hiking sticks for balance on rough terrain, and a picnic lunch. Leader: Inge Sapp, 359 - 2858.
