North Country Operations Crew
Description: North Country operations crew members rotate through a variety of positions associated with the Adirondack Mountain Club’s (ADK) Heart Lake facility near Lake Placid, New York. Responsibilities include: waiting on guests, housekeeping duties, food preparation, retail sales, providing information, parking fee collection, and routine maintenance. Positions available year ‘round.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Knowledge of the High Peaks region helpful.

High Peaks Information Center
Description: High Peaks Information Center (HPIC) employees provide information and merchandise sales for visitors to ADK’s Heart Lake facility near Lake Placid, NY. Additional responsibilities include restocking of merchandise and inventory, general upkeep and cleanliness of the facility, and promoting the mission of ADK.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Customer service and retail experience, along with knowledge of minimum impact camping and the High Peaks Region very helpful.

Front Desk and Reservations Operations
Description: Front desk and reservations employees welcome guests to ADK’s Heart Lake facility and the Adirondak Loj, a rustic 38-space lodge in the heart of the High Peaks Region of New York State. Responsibilities include: facility and program reservations, check-in and check-out procedures and answering telephone and in-person inquiries. Positions open year ‘round.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Detail orientated with an ability to juggle multiple tasks. Knowledge of the High Peaks region helpful.

Johns Brook Lodge Operations
Description: Johns Brook Lodge (JBL) is reached by hiking trail only, three and one-half miles from the nearest road. The facility includes a 28-bed lodge, two year-round cabins and three lean-tos. Employees are responsible for the day to day operation of the lodge that includes preparing meals (July-August), backpacking of all food and supplies in and all trash out, providing information and conducting routine maintenance. On-site housing available with room & board deductions. Limited positions available May – October.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Ability to hike with heavy loads 3 ½ miles over steep terrain to lodge and work and live closely with staff. Customer service, food service, maintenance skills and knowledge of the High Peaks region helpful.

Professional Trail Crew
Description: Professional trail crew members spend five days at a time camping in remote backcountry sites while constructing new trails and rebuilding severely eroded and saturated trails using only hand tools. Rock staircases, step stones, waterbars, ditches and bridges are typical projects. Positions available June – August and August - October.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Strong desire to be challenged physically and mentally, while working in the out-of-doors in extreme conditions. Applicants must be physically fit and able to carry heavy loads.

Volunteer Trail Crew Leader
Description: Trail crew leaders work with, supervise, teach and motivate groups of eight to twelve volunteers of all ages on weekend and week-long trail projects in the Adirondack and Catskill Park of New York State. Crews harden trails with rock and wood, install drainage and perform basic maintenance using hand tools while camping at remote backcountry sites. Positions available June – August.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Experience in leading groups in a wilderness setting, along with a strong desire to be challenged physically and mentally, while working in the out-of-doors in extreme conditions. Applicants must be physically fit and able to carry heavy loads.

High Peaks Summit Stewards
Description: Summit stewards are responsible for educating the hiking public about the rare and fragile alpine communities of the High Peaks Region in New York State. Stewards spend five days at a time camping in remote backcountry sites and hiking each day to a nearby summit Limited positions available June – August/ August - October.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Knowledge of natural history, ecology and the landscape of the Adirondacks extremely helpful. Applicants must have a strong desire to be challenged physically and mentally, while working in the out-of-doors in extreme conditions.

Program Instructor
Description: Instruct outdoor skills and natural history programs that may include backpacking, canoeing, minimum impact camping and flora and fauna identification. Assist department team in completing administrative responsibilities for each program. Inventory and maintain program equipment.
Position available June – August.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Experience in minimum impact camping, backpacking, canoeing, and map & compass, along with trip logistics, food planning & preparation and group dynamics needed. Proven organizational skills and willingness to work extended days in the field.

Summer Naturalist Intern
Description: Responsible for the natural history program at ADK’s Heart Lake facility including preparation and maintenance of exhibits for the nature museum; preparing and conducting interpretive programming for all ages including children and families; training and scheduling of volunteers. Assist department team in completing administrative responsibilities as needed. Position available June – August.
Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must. Strong background and interest in general natural history, with particular fluency in field identification and interpretation. Knowledge of the Adirondacks, including current environmental issues affecting the Adirondack Park, an added bonus.
