Controller
The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) is seeking a dynamic individual for Controller. The Controller has primary responsibility for the oversight and management of the financial and accounting functions of the Adirondack Mountain Club, including accounts receivable and payable, payroll and auditing; develops and initiates systems, policies and procedures for transacting financial matters; and ensures that the financial system is accurate, efficient, and in accordance with professional accounting practices and governmental regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of daily, monthly and periodic accounting and financial reports to management.
- Training and supervision of accounting staff in Lake George and Lake Placid (Adirondak Loj) .
- Cash flow management – Monthly and annual monitoring of cash; forecasting and planning expenses according to projected cash availability.
- Annual budget preparation (3.5M with 22 departments) – planning, organization and development.
- Planning and oversight of monthly financial statement preparation, including various entries to monthly financials and analysis of statements.
- Responsible for the analytic review of operations.
- Custodian of all organizational monies under existing policies.
- Responsible for financial presentations to funding sources in connection with grant applications.
- Payroll administration
- Work with independent auditors for preparation of annual audit and filings of tax returns.
- Responsible for the accounting software program, “Blackbaud Financial Edge”
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration with an accounting concentration from an accredited college or university.
- Three to five years experience as accounting department head, controller or similar experience; six to eight years total experience.
- Experience with fund accounting.
- Experience with accrual accounting systems and multi-departments or separately reporting functions.
- Experience in budget preparation, implementation and follow-up.
- Supervisory experience.
- Computer literate in accounting software programs, Microsoft Office, etc.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
Position: Controller
Status: Exempt/Full-time
Location: Lake George, NY
Closing Date: May 31, 2008 or when filled
Start Date: Immediate as available upon hire
